Join two noted experts, who also happen to be siblings, who study and write about the American Jewish relationship to Israel/Palestine. In this session, they will discuss their research and perspectives on what American Jews think about Israel/Palestine in addition to why and how they maintain meaningful relationships with those with whom they disagree. 

Sivan Zakai is the Sara S. Lee Professor of Jewish Education at the Hebrew Union College. In addition to directing the Children’s Learning About Israel Project and co-directing the Learning and Teaching about What Matters Project, Sivan serves as an associate editor of the Journal of Jewish Education and as a member of the faculty at the Mandel Teacher Educator Institute. Her books include My Second-Favorite Country: How American Jewish Children Think about Israel and Teaching Israel: Studies of Pedagogy from the Field

Oren Kroll-Zeldin is the Anne and Nick Germanacos Associate Professor of Contemporary Jewish Studies at the University of San Francisco where he is also the assistant director of the Swig Program in Jewish Studies and Social Justice. He is the author of Unsettled: American Jews and the Movement for Justice in Palestine and is co-editor of This Is Your Song Too: Phish and Contemporary Jewish Identity.
