Third Space

Talented Musicians & Performers!

Details

Now in its third year, but with a new sound. Join us for a Taste of Third Space — an afternoon of connection, community and performances! We will explore many different ways in which music shapes Jewish identity, from a singing circle to a full band klezmer band, even beatbox bingo and more. Throughout the afternoon, there will be opportunities to encounter and, in some cases, participate in a joyful and diverse repertoire of sounds. Stories will be shared. Songs will be played. A panel with the performers will explore the many ways that Jewish tradition, customs and sounds have influenced the artists. While Taste of Third Space takes on some new sounds this year, mainstays like our Judaica swap, tours of our space, and yummy nosh, will still be on the set list!

Participatory Singing Circle

Being human means that singing and sound-making are your birthright. When we gather to sing, especially when guided by an experienced songleader like Yona Gorelick, we can nurture ourselves and each other; deepen our listening; amplify our voices; rekindle playfulness, silliness, and wonder; and make our way through life with more groundedness, hope, power, and flexibility.

Beat Box Bingo

Beatbox Bingo is banging beats and blistering bingo action mixed together into a uniquely entertaining flow. Your host, Max Bent, makes complex live music with his mouth, instruments and a looping station. The bingo becomes one with the beat, and you’ll be nodding your head and loving the vibes. Fabulous prizes, beautiful people. Come play!

Nashville-Style Songshare

Award-winning songwriter, performer and educator Avi Wisnia is joined by Ami Yares, a songwriter; executive director of BuildaBridge, a trauma-informed arts & education non-profit; and Third Space in-house musician. Their individual journeys span the globe and resonate through their music. Both can stir the soul with the song. Come listen, converse and learn with Avi and Ami.

Behind the Music: Jewish Identity, the Great Spirit, and Song:

Join the musicians of Taste of Third Space in conversation with Rabbi Jessy for an exploration of how each conveys their own Jewish identity, culture, and spiritual truths through their music.  While all of the panelists have music and Judaism (in some form or another) in common, each brings their own unique interpretation of how identity manifests in music, and what happens at the intersection of Jewish tradition and music creation.

Dan Blacksberg’s Freilachs Music

World-renowned klezmer trombone pioneer Dan Blacksberg brings a fresh Philly Klezmer sound with his band Frielachs Music. Featuring the founding drummer of the Klezmatics, David Licht, Freilachs Music makes 21st-century klezmer music that connects past and present, and the local to the global. Alongside original compositions and stone-cold classics, Dan showcases music by women composers: a pillar of this spectacular Jewish music.

What to expect.
